Boa Lacing System

Lightweight

The Boa system delivers a distinct lightweight advantage compared to other closure systems. Our research and field testing has revealed the following:
  • When dry, the Boa Lacing System weighs within 2-3 grams of traditional, low-cut footwear shoelaces. In wet and muddy conditions, it weights 1/2 the weight of traditional shoelaces, since it does not absorb water and easily sheds mud, ice, and snow. Trail runners and hikers appreciate this fact, especially after stream crossings or after enduring a spring squall.
  • In the cycling category, where weight is absolutely crucial, the Boa Lacing System weighs up to 1/5th that of other high-end ratchet closure systems. In some cases, a Boa Lacing System closure may also negate the need for more ratchet or velcro crossings.
  • The lightweight advantage is especially pronounced in inclement weather or snowy conditions. Mountaineers and hikers prefer Boa because it does not collect moisture, meaning it is more lightweight and easier to adjust. Snowboarders and skiers favor Boa for exactly the same reasons. Since the system stays ice-free, it is not only lighter-weight, it also results in warmer feet and dries faster, meaning you can get out on the mountain much sooner -- and stay out much longer.
